E-Rambles are an opportunity to blog about something of interest or importance to me, as long as it in some way relates to Kindle and e-books.

For years my husband and I have led a small group Bible study in our church. One of the most helpful books that has been written recently has been The Message by Eugene Peterson – God’s Word written in contemporary language. This is not a translation per se and Dr. Peterson’s work has been criticized for not holding true to the original definition.

In response, Dr. Peterson’s book is not my first resource for Bible study; it is a supplemental resource. When I struggle to find a way to make God’s Word relevant, I can read Dr. Peterson’s words and have an inspiration for making the thought applicable.

Here’s an example of a scripture from the King James Version of the Bible and then from The Message:

Matthew 5:3-5 (commonly known as part of the Beatitudes)
3 Blessed [are] the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed [are] they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. 5 Blessed [are] the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
*
3 “You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule.
4″You’re blessed when you feel you’ve lost what is most dear to you. Only then can you be embraced by the One most dear to you.
5″You’re blessed when you’re content with just who you are—no more, no less. That’s the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can’t be bought.”

The Message is now available for the Kindle. NavPress, Dr. Peterson’s publisher, has also made just portions of The Message available for purchase. Two of the publications exceed our $5 price point, but then I realized that with the entire Bible, you are getting 66 books, so you are getting a bargain!

The Message: The Gospel of John in Contemporary Language only $1.19.

The Message: The Book of Proverbs only $1.59.

The Message New Testament with Psalms and Proverbs only $6.39.

Read. Think. Pray. Live. The Bible isn’t like any other book you’ll ever read. Yes, it has all the elements of a great narrative–heroes and villains, epic battles, romance, betrayal–but more than that, it is the story of an eternal Savior and a Father who loved us before we even loved him back. In the same way, The Message Remix isn’t like any other student Bible you’ve seen. It’s purely, simply God’s Word–in its most easily understood format ever.
The Message Remix 2.0: The Bible In contemporary Language only $9.99.
