Happy New Reading Year
New year, new goals!
Do you have a reading goal for 2017? What about a reading challenge?
The sample below was pulled from the web. All of us have favorite genre and need a prod to expand our selections. If you input “reading challenge” in an internet search engine, you will find several others – perhaps one that is better for you.
Whether you follow a plan or free style, we wish you a wonderful year of reading in the coming months. We will be sharing our favorite reads from 2016 in the coming weeks.

Apple Credit
While 2016 was coming to an end, the wonderful credit from Apple that I received June 21 came to an end, too. Even though the credit could be used for practically anything purchased from Amazon, I zealously guarded the funds and used them only for Kindle book purchases.
Cheap Reads
Publishers have slashed prices on award-wining books for children and pre-teens. Our jr. site has many of the books and I’ll be posting a more as the prices hold. I tried to put the award name in the post title to help you find them.
If you love a good story, shorter in length and loved by the young-at-heart, check out these six award winners selling for only $1.99 each today.

Unblemished – Inspirational fantasy for teens and adults – Just 99 cents 0 comments

Eliyana can’t bear to look at her own reflection. But what if that were only one Reflection—one world? What if another world exists where her blemish could become her strength?
Eliyana is used to the shadows. With a birthmark covering half her face, she just hopes to graduate high school unscathed. That is, until Joshua hops a fence and changes her perspective. No one, aside from her mother, has ever treated her like he does: normal. Maybe even beautiful. Because of Joshua, Eliyana finally begins to believe she could be loved.
But one night her mother doesn’t come home, and that’s when everything gets weird. Now Joshua is her new, and rather reluctant, legal Guardian. Add a hooded stalker and a Central Park battle to the mix and you’ve gone from weird to otherworldly.
Eliyana soon finds herself in a world much larger and more complicated than she’s ever known. A world enslaved by a powerful and vile man. And Eliyana holds the answer to defeating him. How can an ordinary girl, a blemished girl, become a savior when she can’t even save herself?
This inspirational fantasy is for teens and adults and is selling for only 99 cents today.

Housekeeping: I’ll Take It to Go, Please; Roadtrip Listen & Cheap Reads 2 comments
broom.panI’ll take that book to go, please
The digital revolution has opened the world of audiobooks to a new audience as listeners discover the ease of downloading the recorded version of books to smartphones and tablets. Sales of audiobooks continue to rise, but are still a small portion of publishers’ total business.
The industry is scrambling to keep up with the demand the popularity has created. In 2011, 7,237 audiobooks were published. In 2015, the number was nearly five times larger – 35,574.
Celebrity narrators have been recruited to promote and encourage consumers to give digital books a listen.
Carol sent a note recently that she had purchased the Kindle version of Anne of Green Gables for only 81 cents and then purchased the audiobook for $1.99 more. Rachel McAdams narrates this classic children’s story. Remember Ms. McAdams from The Notebook, Wedding Crashers, and Sherlock Holmes?
For another celebrity-read classic, Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation TV Series) narrates The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Download the Kindle version free and buy the companion audiobook read by Offerman for only $1.99. Both of these Kindle/audiobook combinations are great gifts for children, too.
NOTE: You do not need to be a member of Audible to buy the companion audiobook when you have purchased the Kindle version.
Read more about celebrity narration in this USA Today article.

A Roadtrip Listen
A roadtrip is a great time to enjoy an audiobook. My husband and I recently laughed, sighed and cried through My Southern Journey: True Stories from the Heart of the South by Rick Bragg. The Kindle version is only $1.99; add the audiobook for $4.49 more. (That’s a steal of a price!)
Mr. Bragg narrates short chapters of his family, his childhood, his heritage, Southern cuisine, football and other topics unique to the Southeastern United States. Soft-spoken with a gentle accent, Bragg brings his pre-teen antics to life, endears listeners to his mother and her sisters and reflects on the changes that have occurred in his home state of Alabama. A very personal book, Mr. Bragg is honest in his praise and criticism of himself, his family and his heritage.
My husband described the book as “warts and all stories.” We both highly recommend it.

Cheap Reads – Christmas romances

Vika Andreyeva can summon the snow and turn ash into gold. Nikolai Karimov can see through walls and conjure bridges out of thin air. They are enchanters—the only two in Russia—and with the Ottoman Empire and the Kazakhs threatening, the tsar needs a powerful enchanter by his side.
