Inspirational fiction: The Lost Girl of Astor Street – Historical mystery for teens and adults – $1.99 0 comments

When her best friend vanishes without so much as a good-bye, eighteen-year-old Piper Sail takes on the role of amateur sleuth in an attempt to solve the mystery of Lydia’s disappearance. Given that Piper’s tendency has always been to butt heads with high-society’s expectations of her, it’s no surprise that she doesn’t give a second thought to searching for answers to Lydia’s abduction from their privileged neighborhood.
As Piper discovers that those answers might stem from the corruption strangling 1924 Chicago—and quite possibly lead back to the doors of her affluent neighborhood—she must decide how deep she’s willing to dig, how much she should reveal, and if she’s willing to risk her life of privilege for the sake of the truth.
This inspirational historical mystery is selling for $1.99 today. Suitable for teens and adults.

Rent or Buy
Amazon offers eTextbooks rentals for those who don’t need to own a traditional print copy. Not all rentable textbooks fit the traditional definition. Books from the Cherry Ames Series, historical fiction for pre-teens and teens about a young WWII nurse, are available for a minimal 30-day rent. If you need a bit more time to finish the book or four-book bundle, select any date beyond 30 days and the fee will be increased accordingly.
As the expiration date approaches, Amazon sends a helpful email reminding you to extend the rental period. You can also purchase the book and your rental fee paid will be applied to the current price, if you take action prior to the end of the rental period.
Notice that the email I received (at left) mentions that notes and highlights can be accessed after the expiration. If an enterprising student highlighted the complete textbook…..would those highlights be available?

Earlier this week I found this biography that can be purchased for $1.99 or rented for 30 days for 96 cents:
The Life of Herbert Hoover: Fighting Quaker, 1928–1933 : This is the first definitive study of the presidency of America’s least understood and most under-appreciated Chief Executive. Combining government with private resources, Hoover became the first president to pit government action against the economic cycle, setting precedents and spawning ideas employed by his successor and all future presidents.

Tug loves taking Freddie on wild adventures—trips to the moon, building castles, or catching fireflies with Freddie riding on his wide furry back. When Freddie finds a mysterious egg, Tug makes him promise never to eat it. But Freddie is about to discover that broken promises come at a great price.
This is the rare children’s story—both bold and tender and brimming with moments of great risk, adventure, and heart. Combining the artistic wonder of Where the Wild Things Are with the timeless storytelling of The Polar Express, this story will capture both the imagination and the intelligence of children and their parents as it sheds light on the power of sin, sacrifice, and redemption.

Happy New Reading Year
New year, new goals!
Do you have a reading goal for 2017? What about a reading challenge?
The sample below was pulled from the web. All of us have favorite genre and need a prod to expand our selections. If you input “reading challenge” in an internet search engine, you will find several others – perhaps one that is better for you.
Whether you follow a plan or free style, we wish you a wonderful year of reading in the coming months. We will be sharing our favorite reads from 2016 in the coming weeks.

Apple Credit
While 2016 was coming to an end, the wonderful credit from Apple that I received June 21 came to an end, too. Even though the credit could be used for practically anything purchased from Amazon, I zealously guarded the funds and used them only for Kindle book purchases.

Cheap Reads
Publishers have slashed prices on award-wining books for children and pre-teens. Our jr. site has many of the books and I’ll be posting a more as the prices hold. I tried to put the award name in the post title to help you find them.
If you love a good story, shorter in length and loved by the young-at-heart, check out these six award winners selling for only $1.99 each today.

Unblemished – Inspirational fantasy for teens and adults – Just 99 cents 0 comments

Eliyana can’t bear to look at her own reflection. But what if that were only one Reflection—one world? What if another world exists where her blemish could become her strength?
Eliyana is used to the shadows. With a birthmark covering half her face, she just hopes to graduate high school unscathed. That is, until Joshua hops a fence and changes her perspective. No one, aside from her mother, has ever treated her like he does: normal. Maybe even beautiful. Because of Joshua, Eliyana finally begins to believe she could be loved.
But one night her mother doesn’t come home, and that’s when everything gets weird. Now Joshua is her new, and rather reluctant, legal Guardian. Add a hooded stalker and a Central Park battle to the mix and you’ve gone from weird to otherworldly.
Eliyana soon finds herself in a world much larger and more complicated than she’s ever known. A world enslaved by a powerful and vile man. And Eliyana holds the answer to defeating him. How can an ordinary girl, a blemished girl, become a savior when she can’t even save herself?
This inspirational fantasy is for teens and adults and is selling for only 99 cents today.
