One of cherished author Debbie Macomber’s classic novels, an enchanting tale of a love that is challenged at every turn, is available for the first time in decades—and exclusively as an eBook.
At a magical Christmas fete, Karen McAlister meets a man she cannot ignore—the first man to interest her in a long while. Before she laid eyes on Rand Prescott, Karen would have said her life was complete and content . . . much to the dismay of her widowed father, who would love to see her married and settled. But everything changed
that enchanted night: The stars, the moonlight, the music, and the champagne all conspired to throw two people together. But the fates are determined to pull them apart.
Long ago, Rand Prescott erected a steel façade around his heart. He never had any intention of maintaining any kind of relationship with a woman. Independent, proud, and nearly blind, Rand felt he had no capacity to return a woman’s love. But that was before he met Karen. In one night, she shattered all of his preconceived ideas about romance and threatened to break through his walls. Rand is convinced that Karen deserves better than the love of a blind man. Can he ever accept this beguiling woman into his life—and into his soul?

Oh, the waiting!
The excruciating agony of waiting for sugar cookies. For us cheap chicks, Christmas growing up was never a fancy affair, but it was always a sweet one. Especially with sugar cookies.
But it was a long wait. First to mix up the dough, then to let it chill. We got to use tin cookie cutters – tin bells, stars and trees – to cut out the shapes. More waiting. For the cookies to bake. Waiting for them to cool enough to decorate with red hots and sprinkles. Then finally…..the perfect sugar cookie.
All that waiting was worth it.
That first Christmas, Mary and Joseph were waiting for a baby to arrive and the faithful had been watching for a Messiah for hundreds of years. We hope your holiday dreams are coming true and that your patience has paid off.
We’re so thankful for each of you and the time you spend with us here at Daily Cheap Reads. I (Susan) would like to share a recipe with you so you can have a bit of my Christmas tradition with you this year.
Rarely Fail Sugar Cookies
1 1/2 c. powdered sugar
1 c. butter (softened)
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 1/4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
Combine powdered sugar and butter. Stir in egg and vanilla. Add dry ingredients and mix well. Chill dough 2 to 3 hours or until easy to handle. Roll out on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick. Cut with a cookie cutter and place on cookie sheet. Bake at 375 for 7 to 8 minutes or until lightly browned on the edges. Cool on wire racks.
The dough is kind of “sticky” so use plenty of flour when you roll them out. Put down a sheet of wax paper or a plastic mat and dump a bunch of flour on it. Then put a tablespoon or two on top before you roll it out with a rolling pin. If the rolling pin gets sticky or the cookies won’t lift off the paper, use more flour.
Merry Christmas and cookie baking. God bless us, every one!
