BREAKING: Amazon sending emails regarding Apple Settlement credit 4 comments

Just received this from Amazon:

You now have a credit of $3xx.xx in your Amazon account. Apple, Inc. (Apple) funded this credit to settle antitrust lawsuits brought by State Attorneys General and Class Plaintiffs about the price of electronic books (eBooks). As a result of this Settlement, qualifying eBook purchases from any retailer are eligible for a credit. You previously received an email informing you that you were eligible for this credit. The Court in charge of these cases has now approved the Apple Settlement. If you did not receive that email or for more information about your credit, please visitwww.amazon.com/applebooksettlement.

You don’t have to do anything to claim your credit, we have already added it to your Amazon account. We will automatically apply your available credit to your purchase of qualifying items through Amazon, an Amazon device or an Amazon app. The credit applied to your purchase will appear as a gift card in your order summary and in your account history. In order to spend your credit, please visit the Kindle bookstore or Amazon. If your account does not reflect this credit, please contact Amazon customer service.

Your credit is valid for one year and will expire after June 24, 2017, by order of the Court. If you have not used it, we will remind you of your credit before it expires.

Thank you for being a Kindle customer.

BREAKING NEWS: B&N Announces book credit for Apple Settlement – Updated with PW comments and anticipated pay-out 12 comments

I just received the following e-mail from Barnes & Noble. Has anyone received a similar e-mail from Amazon?

We are happy to let you know that within the next several days you will receive your portion of the Apple Settlement as an electronic credit placed in your Barnes & Noble account. Use your credit to buy books, eBooks, and more in any of our channels — online, in-store, or on your NOOK® or NOOK Reading App™.

How will I know my credit is ready to use?
Within the next few days, you will receive another email confirming that your credit is in your account. That notice will also include a printable certificate that you can use at any Barnes & Noble store.

Why am I getting this credit?
The credit results from the Settlement reached with Apple Inc. in an antitrust lawsuit filed by State Attorneys General and Class Plaintiffs about the price of electronic books. We previously sent you emails informing you that you were eligible for a credit in your Barnes & Noble account. If you did not receive those emails, you can read about the Settlement at www.EBookLawsuits.com. Barnes & Noble was not a party to the Settlement, but as a Barnes & Noble customer you can take advantage of the benefits agreed to by the settling parties.

Will my credit expire?
If you do not use some part of the credit to make a purchase within one year, your entire credit will expire on June 24, 2017, and you will no longer have access to use it. However, if you make a purchase that only uses part of your credit, the remainder of the credit will have no expiration date.

How was my credit amount calculated?
The amount of your credit was determined by (1) how many qualifying eBooks you purchased during the claims period and (2) if the eligible eBook was ever a New York Times Bestseller. eBooks that were New York Times Bestsellers received a higher per eBook credit than those that were not New York Times Bestsellers.

ADDED: From Publishers Weekly – this sounds like great credit to buy books! Let’s hope the publishers agree and give us incentives.

The book business is about to get a summer boost. Attorneys today confirmed that $400 million in refunds due readers following the end of the Apple e-book price-fixing case will begin flowing into customer accounts on June 21—with refunds for New York Times bestsellers approaching $7 per title purchased.

Similar to the prior settlements with publishers, which were paid out in 2014, the bulk of the Apple credits will be automatically delivered directly into the accounts of consumers at major book retailers, including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, and Apple.

Consumers will receive a $6.93 credit for every purchased e-book that was a New York Times bestseller, and a $1.57 credit for other e-books.

ADDED – Comments from others
If you don’t read the comments: Michele found her credit on her account listed as a gift card balance and she does not use gift cards. Cassie received an email from Amazon. Woo-hoo! Great way to start the summer with credits for book-buying.

ADDED – What a windfall
Obviously, I spend a great deal of money buying books as that is this business. I just got my letter and my credit is in excess of $300. I wish that much for every one of you.

UPDATE: First, I have spent a total of 99 cents at B&N. I have an account there and download free books from publishers with the exception of my one and only purchase. When the major publishers credits were given, I received 73 cent on my 99 cent purchase. Today with this Apple settlement I received $1.57. I’m making money from these settlements!

Hope this Easter Season 3 comments

He is Risen2Today is the day we celebrate the Risen Savior, the day when deep despair turned to belief and wonder. The day when Christ’s disciples learned that in the darkest of times, hope still lives.
Each day mankind endures great sorrow through hope. Hope that the outcome will be better than expected. Hope that tomorrow will be a better day. Hope that we will be reunited with loved ones in heaven.
This season of the year we welcome the earth’s rebirth and place our dreams in seeds planted in fertile soil. We watch young animals and babies marvel in the world around them and hope for their futures.
Like opening a new book, we begin each day with expectations. Sometimes the book fails or falls short or life disappoints.
Unlike books and other things of this world, true hope and faith in Christ does not fail. Christ the Lord is risen today. Alleluia!

Merry Christmas to all our friends! 4 comments

Sugar CookiesOh, the waiting!
The excruciating agony of waiting for sugar cookies. For us cheap chicks, Christmas growing up was never a fancy affair, but it was always a sweet one. Especially with sugar cookies.
But it was a long wait. First to mix up the dough, then to let it chill. We got to use tin cookie cutters – tin bells, stars and trees – to cut out the shapes. More waiting. For the cookies to bake. Waiting for them to cool enough to decorate with red hots and sprinkles. Then finally…..the perfect sugar cookie.
All that waiting was worth it.
Those loooooong hours waiting taught us a lesson in patience. Christmas is a time of great anticipation and patience. You’ve probably been waiting this season – to unwrap that perfect present. In a line at the mall. For a loved one coming home.
That first Christmas, Mary and Joseph were waiting for a baby to arrive and the faithful had been watching for a Messiah for hundreds of years. We hope your holiday dreams are coming true and that your patience has paid off.

Merry Christmas to all our friends who are visiting Daily Cheap Reads today!
