Playlist for the Dead ($1.99) For teen readers: There was a party. There was a fight. The next morning, Sam’s best friend, Hayden, was dead. And all he left Sam was a playlist of songs and a suicide note: For Sam—listen and you’ll understand.
Escape Game Garage Escape (Free) App for Kindle Fire and Android: The purpose of this game is that you are kidnapped and locked in the Garage.
Three Daughters ($2.95) Audible Deal of the Day (price ends at 11:59pm Eastern): Born in rural Palestine, just before the dawn of the 20th century, Miriam adores her father and is certain his love will protect her, but she soon finds that tradition overrides love. Uprooted by war, Miriam enters a world where the old constraints slip away with thrilling and disastrous results. Miriam’s rebellious daughter, Nadia, is thrilled with the opportunity for a modern life that her elite education provides. But when she falls in love with an outsider, the clan reins her back with a shocking finality.

Memorial Day 2015 3 comments

MemDay153Memorial Day weekend 2015 will be forever etched in our minds.
As many of you know, our younger brother John, age 45, suffered a fatal heart attack on Wednesday. Friday evening during the visitation at the church more than 200, perhaps 300 people – family, friends, co-workers, customers, employers, church family – came to give us hugs, recall John stories, and offer support.
Saturday we honored John’s life in the service and burial. John was a member of the Missouri Army National Guard for 27 years. Perhaps 30 men and their spouses from his unit (129th Field Artillery) were present in dress uniform. They draped the coffin with the American flag and stood in formation as the family exited the church.
At the cemetery they stood in formation throughout the graveside services. The American Legion Post presented the flags, three-gun salute and playing of taps. Two young men folded the American flag with precision and honor before presenting it to John’s widow.
As touching as all of this was, what tugged at our heartstrings was this: the tear-filled eyes of these citizen soldiers as they stood at attention to say good-bye to their comrade. Thank you, 129th Field Artillery, for your service to our family. And thank you for being the strong men who loved our brother.
Let us honor and remember all who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

Thank you for all your prayers and words of encouragement 2 comments

All –

We are greatly humbled with the outpouring of prayers, words of sympathy and encouragement extended to us at the death of our 45-year-old brother. Yesterday (Thursday) we assisted our sister-in-law in planning the service to celebrate John’s life.
As is the custom in our area of the United States, this evening the family will welcome friends and relatives to visit at the church for several hours where we will share our remembrances. Saturday morning we will celebrate John’s life at a church service. The next two days will be difficult and your continued prayers are appreciated.

The Holocaust ($2.99) This sweeping narrative begins with an in-depth historical analysis of the origins of anti-Semitism in Europe, and tracks the systematic brutality of Hitler’s “Final Solution” in unflinching detail. It brings to light new source materials documenting Mengele’s diabolical concentration camp experiments and documents the activities of Himmler, Eichmann, and other Nazi leaders. It also demonstrates comprehensive evidence of Jewish resistance and the heroic efforts of Gentiles to aid and shelter Jews and others targeted for extermination, even at the risk of their own lives.

Combining survivor testimonies, deft historical analysis, and painstaking research, The Holocaust is without doubt a masterwork of World War II history.
